“How much does it cost to build a website?” Giving a single number is the easiest answer, but also the most irresponsible. The phrase “I want to build a website” could mean anything from a simple promotional page to a full-fledged store with inventory, membership, and payment processing — two entirely different projects that cannot be priced the same. In this article, we’ll break down the costs based on actual client projects we’ve worked on, so you can see where the money actually goes.
The price is determined not by the number of pages, but by the number of processes involved. Adding ten more content pages won’t significantly increase costs; but adding a checkout system, a membership area, or a booking process — each of these is a separate development, testing, and error-handling task.
Comparing two of our client projects makes this clear. Moncity is a mobile parts store in Sham Shui Po with a catalogue of over 750 models and 15 brands — the challenge there was the catalogue structure and model matching, not the number of pages. Hong Kong Primary School Interviews is a subscription membership platform with information on 584 schools, charging monthly fees of HK$50 to 80 — the challenge there was member permissions, renewal, and content classification.
Both are called “websites”, but one deals with products, while the other deals with people and money. If you can specify which type yours is, the quote will be much more accurate.
Our starting prices are all public on our pricing page: one-page landing page from HK$4,800, brand website from HK$12,800, online store from HK$26,800, platform or Web App from HK$58,000.
These three tiers of websites all include domain and email forwarding for the first year. This is a practical arrangement — new clients least want to open accounts with three different suppliers at the start.
A website going live is not the end; it’s the beginning of maintenance. Our hosting and maintenance plans come in three tiers:
The “30 minutes of monthly changes” is a practical help. Many SMEs don’t lack the will to update their website, but changing a phone number can mean waiting for an agency to quote, so they just don’t bother — and a year later, the site becomes outdated.
New companies can opt for our First Year Online Package HK$7,200: one-page landing (HK$4,800), domain and email forwarding for the first year, 12 months of S-tier hosting and maintenance (HK$3,360). Buying separately would cost HK$8,160.
Advertising budget, domain renewal, professional email, payment gateway fees, third-party API usage — these fees can be billed to your own account, or managed by us on your behalf. We offer both options.
Many clients prefer simplicity and have us handle everything from domain, hosting, email to advertising budget, so they only receive one monthly bill; others want to manage their Google Ads account and domain registrar themselves, in which case we set up and manage for them, with them handling the payments. There’s no one-size-fits-all; the key is to clearly state in the quote who pays for what and who holds the account.
We have one bottom line: we will not add charges without your knowledge. Regardless of the arrangement, you can always get a firm number.
Websites solve “getting found and getting orders”; systems solve “the work after the orders come in”. Our automation modules start from HK$18,000, AI document recognition from HK$32,000, quoted per module, not as a complete suite.
When we worked with Rental Services by Anlander, we did it this way: online booking, Stripe deposit and automatic deposit refund, self-service kiosk — adding one piece at a time, not building the whole platform from the start. The benefit of this approach is that each module is only considered live when it’s in production, so you see it earning its keep before deciding on the next one.
The rule of thumb is simple: start with the process that eats up the most manpower each month. Not the one that’s the trendiest.
If you’re just starting out, the first year typically looks like this: a one-page landing or brand website as your storefront, S-tier maintenance to keep it running. Website data tracking and Google search data are already included in every website package, so from day one of launch, you’ll know where your visitors come from and which search terms bring them in, without any extra cost. You can delay advertising for three months — let the website gather some real data first, so your ads won’t be a shot in the dark.
Things you can delay: multilingual versions, membership systems, automation modules. These are all “worth it after you have business”.
The most important thing is not to buy things you won’t use. We provide a written fixed quote for each project before we start, stating clearly what’s included and what’s not; once the quote is confirmed, the price won’t change unless you request additional work outside the scope. If you want to know how much your business actually needs to spend, tell us about your process and we’ll figure it out.
Tell us in one email what you want to do online and we will come back with a written scope and a fixed quote.
