HK Bus Time

An installable web app that shows real-time Hong Kong bus arrival times on an always-on, station-pole-style display — pick a few stops once and leave it running like a notice board for the commute, the elderly at home, or a shopfront.

Overview

hkbustime.com pulls live estimated-arrival data for KMB, Citybus and rail-feeder routes and renders it as a large, glanceable arrival board. It is built to stay open all day on a spare phone or screen, like the pink station poles commuters know.

The brief

Make bus ETA effortless: no searching every time, no clutter. Choose your stops once, then see the next buses at a glance on a display that never sleeps — and can be installed to the home screen like a native app.

What we built

  • Real-time ETA — live arrival times from Hong Kong open data (data.gov.hk).
  • Always-on display — a station-pole-style board that refreshes itself and stays awake.
  • Installable PWA — add to home screen, opens full-screen like an app, works offline-friendly.
  • Saved stops — keep your regular stops; free tier for one stop, paid for up to ten.
  • Front-end only — fast and low-cost, served straight from the edge.

Highlights

  • Glanceable, always-on — like the station pole, at home.
  • Installs like a native app, no app store needed.
  • Built on official open data, refreshed every 20 seconds.
